A Friday Night Out With College Pals At A Local College Pub Leads To Excessive And Hazardous Drinking And Alcohol Poisoning

When Lois was in high school, she had achieved a reputation as a studious person who rarely, if ever, drank with her buddies. She seemed driven to "shine" academically so that she would be able to pursue a career that she not only enjoyed but one that also gave her a degree of monetary stability.

After Lois completed high school, she applied to and was accepted into a celebrated program in math. Her justification for this decision was that this subject area would be good preparation for law school and would not be identical to the preponderance of law school applicants who major in political science at the undergraduate level.

Lois was the kind of individual who worked in a vigorous manner to accomplish her goal and then would take a couple of days off when she could. As is the case, nonetheless, most of the things she did between school sessions or during summer breaks did not involve drinking. Obviously, Lois was anything but a partygoer. Now that her final examinations for her second year in law school were done and feeling overjoyed that she had done extremely well on her finals, because of this, she wanted to take a break and do some celebrating.

So Lois and several of her pals went to a local saloon where they had a few cocktails. As the evening moved forward, Lois and her buddies continued to drink. In point of fact, she was having such a magnificent time that she didn't want the night to end.

After drinking about fifty minutes when Lois started to speak in a confused manner, slur her words, and then fall unconscious, however, her buddies immediately realized that they needed to call that they needed to call 911 and ask for medical assistance because they suspected that Lois was manifesting alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Lois was conscious of the fact that she had narrowly escaped death from an alcohol overdose and, consequently, was gratified to be alive. At the same time, nevertheless, she was somewhat disheartened knowing that she had almost passed away the previous night. Her parents realized how relentlessly she studied at school and how little she permitted herself to have any fun. Nevertheless, they also realized that Lois needed to stay away from excessive and irresponsible drinking.

As a result, they recommended that in the future, whenever a drinking opportunity arises, that she always drink responsibly and in moderation. Lois agreed and promised her friends and her Mom and Dad that she would never again drink in an abusive manner. As stated by Lois, "I never had a clue that I might become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local newspaper. I now know that irresponsible and hazardous drinking is not the best for me. I give my word of honor that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "school smart" but she also possessed. Stated differently, she instantaneously knew that she had made a mistake and made up her mind that she would not make the same error again. In point of fact, she now grasped the fact that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this form of careless and hazardous drinking can result in a fatality.
