A Married Couple Worries About Their Excessive And Abusive Drinking And Contemplates Whether They Exhibit Any Alcohol Addiction Signs

Lenny and Angie have been married for nine years. They wanted to have some fun and excitement before they made up their minds to have children and so they consciously constructed a very exciting social life.

The major difficulty, it needs to be stressed, is that virtually everything they do for excitement is related to drinking. For instance, all of the happy hours, sporting events, family get-togethers, parties with friends, and dinner engagements they attend somehow include drinking.

If they were moderate or responsible drinkers this wouldn't be such a major issue. Given the fact that they drink quite abusively, nonetheless, they are beginning to notice some instantly noticeable alcohol-related problems in their lives.

As an illustration, Lenny recently was apprehended by the police for a third DUI and has been ignoring responsibilities at work because of alcohol-related health problems. What is more, Lenny's last two or three performance evaluations at his place of employment have been less than average and he has begun to fail to recall what he does or says the times that he drinks. Lastly, Lenny has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family has begun to worry about his drinking problems.

Similarly, Angie has been feeling disheartened with life and to cope with these feelings, she has been drinking more regularly than any time in the past year. Moreover, Angie has been getting a lot of painful headaches and suffering from intense hangovers because of her drinking. Finally, Angie has been feeling appreciably less active in the morning, she has been getting to work late almost every Monday, and she has been receiving some insensitive criticism from her friends, family members, coworkers, and relatives about her abusive and careless drinking.

One Sunday evening while watching TV, Angie and Lenny accidentally found a documentary about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about alcoholism signs in particular. This television documentary was a real eye opener to Angie and Lenny because quite a few of the alcohol facts that were gone over looked like they were unshakably associated with many of the alcohol related drinking problems Angie and Lenny had been experiencing.

With thoughts of the television documentary still fresh in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcohol dependency signs they have been displaying could mean that they are addicted to alcohol or perhaps becoming dependent on alcohol. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's question and so he recommended that they schedule an appointment with one of the therapists at the nearby drug and alcohol abuse treatment clinic to find out more about the gravity of their drinking circumstances.

Ironically, although their drinking circumstances hadn't yet changed, it was apparent that Lenny and Angie were at the very least addressing their drinking difficulties, they were willing to find out more about their drinking circumstances, and they were concerned about how they could appreciably cut down the severity or eliminate the drinking-related issues that had started to deteriorate even further.

When Lenny and Angie went to bed that night, they decided that the next day, Lenny would call and schedule an appointment for both of them at the alcohol rehab facility located in the middle of town. After they made a promise to one another that they would do whatever it takes to deal with the drinking problems that had manifested themselves in their lives, they truly had the best night's sleep they could recollect in the last seven months.
