Heather drank quite heavily on a regular basis with her drinking pals. One Tuesday after all her classes were completed, she began thinking about the amount of alcohol she drank on a fairly regular basis and the irresponsible and abusive drinking of her pals. For our young age, we obviously drink a lot and I am beginning to wonder if all of us are headed for a life filled with alcohol-associated problems when we become older.
I think we need to go online and learn all that is possible about alcoholism, alcohol poisoning, binge drinking, and alcohol abuse. And then if we have any issues that we cannot understand after we finish our online research, we can go to the student health center at the college and ask Nurse Furlong to help us understand what we do not know.
It should not come as a complete surprise that what Heather articulated would lead to a heated discussion. They were, however, apprehensive about discussing their drinking situations with any of the teachers at school. As Heather reflected on this she whispered to herself, "at least they want to learn more about their unhealthy and abusive drinking. This is an excellent start."
